Today, on National Tell a Fairy Tale Day, why not take a moment to revisit one of your favorite stories? Whether it’s the classic ‘Cinderella’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, or ‘The Frog Prince’, these fairy tales are full of magical moments and characters that will bring a smile to your face.
We have passed fairy tales down from generation to generation in cultures all over the world, traditionally being shared orally or in writing. Now, with the emergence of technology, these stories are also available visually through movies, videos, and television.
In Filipino culture, some of the most popular tales involve mythical creatures, such as the tikbalang, agta, duwende, and aswang. Other tales are of brave heroes who save the day and of incredible adventures in far-off lands. Many of these stories use symbolism and magical elements. They teach life lessons or the cultural values of morality, bravery, and kindness. For example, the importance of family unity or the power of love over evil. These stories continue to fascinate and capture the imaginations of adults and children alike.
